Ataxic
What I Play:
I mainly play hard dance (under the name Ataxic) with a focus on the harder end of hard trance to stomping hardhouse. Artists I am digging at the moment are Jody6, Technikal, Ben Stevens, Rodi Style, Paul Glazby, Phil Reynolds and many many more, I’m also really enjoying hard-psy-dance (which I find myself playing more and more) produced by the likes of Electro Sun and Bizarre Contact. I also have a huge collection of breaks which I also love playing (under the name Simon M). I can be found playing anything from funky breaks through to tearout/party breaks.
How I came to be where I am:
It all started in 2005/2006 when I went to a Destination 06 NYE party and saw a life changing set from Phil Reynolds followed by, the then very new, High Dosage. After that I HAD to learn how to DJ. So the next day (to be fair it was about 3 days before I could walk and function properly again) I was on the internet buying a complete set-up. Once it arrived I began reading about how to DJ and taught myself the basics. About 6 months after starting to DJ I had the basics down and had my first big gig. It was at Convergence which was held at the Vatican in Dunedin. I played a 2am-4am set to around 400 people which is an experience words can’t justify. Following the success of that gig I nailed a few more sets before I was fortunate enough to get a prime time set at the event that inspired me 1 year earlier, I played 3-4am back to back with Pequire at Destination 07 alongside Steve Hill and Tara Reynolds. Since then I have supported names such as Phil Reynolds, K90 on several occasions, April, Daniel Ro, Future Resonance and many other talented locals and am also a convergence resident.
This year DJing is taking on a more central role in my life with more and more events being booked both here in Dunedin and out of town. It also marks the beginning of Onetrackminds. I have had some experience promoting helping with such events as ‘5 years of decadence with K90’ and several ‘Convergences’, I am trying to draw on this experience to help make Onetrackminds a success.
