Coda
Sebastian Coda was born in London and emigrated to New Zealand with his parents. Coming from a very musical & theatrical production oriented family, Coda's first exposure to disc jockeying was running school discos. This started a healthy record buying habit and led to writing electronic music in high school.
Coda was attracted to the emerging sounds of the UK & USA’s underground dance scenes. With exposure to some of Wellington's early dance parties and clubs his interest continued to grow. In late 1992 Coda met DJ Tank Girl who was running the for-founding "techno gangster studio rave" show on Radio Active. From this he helped setup the first Eden party with Tank Girl and played at Eden 2.
Eden changed the way dance music was listened to in Wellington. The music was getting bigger and the venues needed to as well. For the next 2 years Coda played with some of NZ's best DJs at Eden parties until 1995 when he played his first international with Thomas Heckmann from Germany at Eclipse. By this stage the rave scene was at it's peak and Coda was the master of creating epic journeys into the audio realms that now lie between trance and techno.
By 1996 the dance scene had started to move back into the clubs with a new era of parties & international DJs. Since then Coda has supported some of the best DJs in the world including Derek May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills, Ritchie Hawtin, Stacey Pullen, Ben Sims, The Advent, Alex Paterson and Dave Angel. Coda has held residencies at numerous Wellington clubs including La Luna, Tatou, Escape(ESC)/Studio Nine, Watkins Bar, Zibibbo and S-ence clubnights at various venues around the city. As well as playing gigs around New Zealand, he has also maintained a ground roots presence in the local scene with sets at numerous events and private parties like the White Room & Black Room. Despite Coda's reputation for driving sets, it's also a guarantee he will deliver a unique set tailored to the crowd, environment and situation. A bi-product of his early record buying days is a huge retro-dancefloor collection, which has seen him pull-off superb sets at 80s parties.
With over sixteen years experience and a rich dancefloor background, Coda's sets are epic journeys. His tight groove driven tech missions, highlighted by long-haul transitions and expert mixer control create an ideal sound scape for large format parties.
