Beginning her solo career, in 2003 in Dunedin’s music scene as Sista Mischief. Hannah playing out and collaborating with local artists, dancehall/roots DJs, and local producer Ecophonik. In 2004 with their single ‘Secret’, Hannah found herself playlisted on top ten bnet and national radio stations.
Later that year Hannah released her debut album PATCHWORK QUILT. A mix of reggae and folk ballads. This ‘ambitious, intelligent and unpretentious’ album features major players Warren Maxwell (Fat Freddy’s Drop, Little Bushman), Matt Eddy (Zuvuya, Phantom Power) and Alan Starrett (Principal Viola for the Southern Sinfonia, The Clean, David Kilgour)

In 2005 Hannah release her second album LIVE AT BODEGA. Featuring guest artist Francesca Mountfort (Carnival), Yair Katz (The Mamaku Project) and engineer Aidan Mills (Holly Smith, Dave Dobbyn, Little Bushman).On release of her second album, Hannah was credited with:‘inventing a new genre of music- folk-dub.

Since the release of her first two albums. Howes' has been touring and wowing audiences at music festivals the length of the country,at the Toots and Grooves Festival (Horowhenua), Soundsplash (Raglan), Parihaka International Peace Festivals (Taranaki), Rippon (Wanaka), Nelson Arts Festival, Dunedin Fringe Festival, Destinations (Arthurs Pass), Cause (Wanaka), Kaikoura Roots Festivals, Newtown Festival (Wellington) and has toured NZ several times, independently and with respected reggae band, Cornerstone Roots. Gaining recognition both here and abroad for her
‘compelling vocals and sumptuous soul, pitch perfect delivery and multi-layered, to the beat, back up" (Tom Chapman).
Having now been intised to the capital city. Howel's has had the oportunity to teamed up and play alongside Rhombus, Recloose, Age Pryor, Woolshed sessions, Jonathon Crayford Trio, Trinity Roots, Olmecha Supreme, Tahu and Hikoikoi and powerful songwriters Imon Starr, Ariana Tikao, and Dayna Sanerivi.
This talent has been channelled into Hannah's new album, CANDY. Recorded and mixed by award winning engineer, Lee Prebble, at the prestigious Surgery Studios.
The 13- track album, due for New Zealand release in March 2009 through Rhythmethod Distrubution.
With this beautifully crafted album, both soothing and thought provoking, introduces a stellar line-up and backing band, that will leave audiences tantalised.
