Michael Stones, or Melos as he is better known, has been a silent warrior of the underground dance music scene throughout the last 16 years, waiting quietly in the wings for his time to shine. Having collected records and DJ’d since the age of eleven, Mick has honed his ears for how music fits together and what components it is made up from. He was raised in a very musical family and was influenced from a really young age with the sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Fleetwood Mac, John Lee Hooker and a lot of 80's music like Depeche Mode been played by his parents. Then, as his sister grew up, it was the sounds of The Stone Roses / Prodigy and Nirvana that carried him through to finding his own feet in the early breakbeat hardcore scene but that progressed to jungle then onto intelligent / atmospheric drum & bass. The scene was set and once he discovered turntablism and the hip hop scene, he spent years pushing his music and mixing / scratching / cutting skills to quite a high standard, falling in love instantly with LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad, The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Ganstarr, Pete Rock, Dave Clark, Richie Hawtin and a vast range of underground music. After running successful nights and free parties for over 6 years playing house, techno, breaks, drum & bass and hip hop, he naturally turned his hand to production. This was the moment Mick knew what he wanted to do musically so set about writing well over 150 deep, soulful and atmospheric drum & bass tracks in the last 6 years with no real help or lessons from anyone, completely locked away learning as much as he could and producing some pretty nice bits along the way. Since November last year things have come on dramatically for Mr Melos (aka Vibrant Scientists). Now signed to Textures Music Group, Vibration Records and Point 9 Audio, Melos also has lots of side projects going on including a regular podcast, The Melocast, featured on Soundcloud every month, mixes on Liquid Sessions, Torrential Tuesday and has tracks regularly featured on Bassdrive. He is also now head of promotions for Textures Music Group working hard behind the scenes to bring the music to the masses! With tracks been supported by Brokendrum, PMX, Kasio, mSdoS, B4ssTee, Seb Bruen, DJ Paranoid and many more, the rest of 2010 looks set to be the year Melos finally makes his mark.
