The golden years of d&b after midnight, kiwitunes special before midnight

1996 and 1997 was when the genre of Drum & Bass busted wide open. Dominated by the Jamaican jungle vibe in the early '90s, the sound started taking on new influences such as '50s and '60s cool jazz, blues, '70s funk, hip hop, techno and industrial.

Stylistic juxtapositions is what makes drum & bass live and breathe, and 1996-97 is the time this really came together. This is why we decided to make the second Broken Memories night a Limited Edition event from just these two years, at the Valve Bar.

Playing on the night will be some of Wellington's best selectors, collectors and fans of this time: Excelle, Thoughtware, Conspiracy and Flaw. It will be a night for the book, a night overflowing with broken memories.
