Take Part in the Drama
Keoki was America's first Superstar DJ. In the 1990s New York City thrilled to the incredible performances of a naturally gifted DJ and born showman. Residencies at NYC clubs Danceteria, Disco 2000 and Limelight made his name and the New York Club Kid scene made him a star.
The Club Kid scene combined fashion, drama, sex and outrageous behaviour with musical daring. As the scene's star DJ, Keoki's anarchistic flamboyance and showmanship were given full reign. The NYC 1990s Club Kid scene was immortalised in cult film Party Monster.
The film chronicles the true story of Michael Alig, a prominent gay promoter in the Club Kid era who lost the plot to a combination of drugs, ego and insanity, and then murdered his friend Angel Melendez. Keoki had been Alig's boyfriend for seven years. Wilmer Valderrama, (Fez from That 70's Show) portrays DJ Keoki in the film.
Keoki has released four albums and 20 mix-CDs in the US and this is his first ever New Zealand performance. Keoki's current sound combines electro-clash-punk with New York house anthems, and underground dancefloor weapons.
