Singer/songwriters air their Dirty Laundry @ The Matterhorn

Matterhorn presents, Dirty Laundry, a series of real life tales of triumph and lament featuring solo performances by some of our most gifted singers and songwriters.

The inaugural series will run on Monday evenings at the Cuba Street chalet in Wellington, with each session featuring a special guest artist performing original and inspirational material.

Launching the Dirty Laundry series is Flip Grater from Christchurch, followed by Grayson Gilmour from Palmerston North, Adi Dick from Welli and Ryan Prebble another Welli based lad.

For nearly a decade, the Matterhorn has supported emerging New Zealand music and this vibrant culture of bands and collaborative projects, including Fat Freddy's Drop and more recently The Eggs, has led to national and international attention.

Adán E. Tijerina, Co-Director at Matterhorn says that while this cooperative musical movement still flourishes, "we would now like to shift some of the focus to a selection of individuals that toil tirelessly to compose and perform self-produced material."

He says the artists will share true songs about their lives and songs of truth that have shaped their lives. Some will tell stories of triumph as well as of grief, and maybe even a few little secrets as they air their 'dirty laundry'.

Hosting each evening's performance will be local musical stalwart, Jeremy Taylor, who will also offer a few creations of his own to the evenings' affairs.

DIRTY LAUNDRY AT THE MATTERHORN , ROUND ONE

  • Monday October 9: Flip Grater

Based in Christchurch, singer/songwriter Flip Grater is an ascending talent in New Zealand music with intelligent self-penned songs and a versatile honey-coated voice. Flip's style ranges from dirty indie-folk to gentle introverted lullabies with plenty of stops in between. Don't miss her debut album, 'Cage For a Song' out now on Maiden Records; see http://www.flipgrater.com for more details.

  • Monday October 23: Grayson Gilmour

Hailing from the murky swamps of Palmerston North, Grayson Gilmour began his solo recordings at age 16, with the release of 'Abstract Arrival' in 2002. He continued involvement with bands of relative obscurity, yet released a second solo project entitled 'Behind Locked Doors' and his most recent release, 'Phantom Limbs', which has found well-deserved praise since release last year. http://www.myspace.com/graysongilmour

Adi has also recently toured the country with Fly My Pretties and has since secured a deal with Loop Recordings to release a debut solo album in late February 2007. http://www.myspace.com/adidick
