Cornerstone Roots brings live Reggae to Groove Garden debut
Cornerstone Roots brings live Reggae to Groove Garden debut
Saturday, 20th November, the "Groove Garden" parties kick off at The Irish Rover (Gisborne) with Raglan-based reggae band CORNERSTONE ROOTS and BRAZILBEAT SOUND SYSTEM.
A traditional Jamaican-inspired roots and dub outfit, Cornerstone Roots crisscrosses New Zealand from north to south, and are about to embark on their third Australian tour. They have supported international reggae acts such as Burning Spear and Toots & the Maytals, and regularly share stages with top NZ bands like Salmonella Dub and The Black Seeds. Their album Soul Revolution (2003) earned good reviews in the national press and on the web. With participation from Warren Maxwell of Trinity Roots and the brass section from Fat Freddy's Drop, among others, Soul Revolution is highly recommended. One song also features on the recent NZ compilation Conscious Roots, in stores now.
Singer/songwriter/guitarrist Brian McMillan formed the band in 2001. Brian and partner Naomi McCormick, who plays bass guitar in the band, are also the organisers of the Soundsplash Reggae Festival, the third installation of which will take place in Raglan in February 2005.
For the show on the 20th, Cornerstone Roots will perform as a 7-piece band, carrying a full horn section. The audience can look forward to a night of inspiring reggae jams of the highest quality.
BrazilBeat Sound System will take over the Garden at the Irish, spinning their signature Latin-inspired dance music as well as reggae, dub, r&b and more.
BrazilBeat Sound System is planning their summer NZ tour, with North Island dates booked. They are especially looking forward to playing New Year's Eve at the 24-hour festival "Resolution", held in Coromandel, alongside Concord Dawn, Pitch Black, Soane, Minuit and others.
