Soma Records' favourite artist and one of the hottest names in modern electronica is coming to New Zealand for one special not-to-be-missed show , Alex Smoke LIVE.

Infusing strongly European-inspired minimal techno and house with melodic Detroit strings, electro, dub, acoustic and even classical elements, Smoke's music is refreshingly original and inspiring. His prolific output possesses a warmth all-too-often lacking in that of his contemporaries, his sound embracing human musicality as much as brittle machine soul. After his highly acclaimed album releases on Soma Records, Incommunicado (2005) and Paradolia (2006), and a string of killer twelve inches on coveted label Vakant from Berlin, Alex has quickly climbed the ranks of the techno elite and is consistently placed in lists alongside the best minimal and techno producers and DJs the world over, with further mainstream crossover success into the international progressive house market. In quick succession to Luciano's already largely revered mix, Alex has just released Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi Vol. 3 (November 2006) on Soma Records, assembling an expansive selection of tracks that perfectly define his influences and style - from unreleased Smoke material to forgotten classics from legendary producers like Basic Channel, Juan Atkins and Robert Hood, to modern electronic pioneers, including Claro Intelecto, Thomas Brinkmann and Troy Pierce.

Having remixed the likes of Mylo, Alex Under, Vector Lovers, Steve Reich, Junior Boys, Depeche Mode, Funk D'Void, Slam and Andre Kraml, Alex is in huge demand as a producer, remixer and DJ, even putting together a live mix for the massively popular 'Essential Mix' on UK's BBC Radio One earlier this year. He has already toured the world over; playing some of the most highly regarded clubs and Festivals across the UK, Europe, USA, Russia, Japan and beyond. His live sets are the stuff of legend. After a brief appearance at Melbourne's Red Bull Music Academy, Innersound is proud to present the full Alex Smoke LIVE experience in his first New Zealand tour. In January 2007 we welcome one of the most brilliant minds in contemporary electronic music.

Alongside Smoke will be New Zealand's own electronic mastermind, Simon Flower delivering one of his unique made to order LIVE sets. Flower's Nurture label has racked up admirers like Derrick May, Andrew Weatherall and Carl Craig whilst his productions have seen local artists like Minuit, Rob Salmon, Pitch Black, Antix and Coco Solid all clamber for remixes.

In support will be long time Innersound DJ's and Fu residents Silverbeat, Darin King and Chaye D. The Innersound show has been a staple on the George FM airways for years and each member of the Innersound team is a tireless stalwart of their particular brand of tech infused electronica.

Innersound have a special treat up their collective sleeves for everyone on the night, which will appeal to all those with a penchant for retro technology.
