One of the stars of the Reggae world hits the Capital - with live band in session!
JUNIOR KELLY originates from Kingston, Jamaica. After spending the first few years of his life in a harsh city environment, Kelly moved with his family to the small country town of Manchester. It was here that Kelly began writing lyrics, deejaying and working with producers in Kingston.
Kelly's first big break came with the hit LOVE SO NICE, the title track from the album released in 2001. He followed this up with albums such as CONSCIOUS VOICE (2002), BLESS (2003), CREATION (2004), and most recently the acclaimed TOUGH LIFE (2005), featuring the smash hit RASTA SHOULD BE DEEPER. It was at this point that Kelly established himself worldwide as a standout conscious roots artist.
A prolific songwriter, Junior Kelly has produced alongside legends such as Steely & Clevie and Sly and Robbie. An artist that refuses to be pigeonholed, his lyrics concern love and relationships, but also provide insightful social commentary about poverty, race and Rasta.
Backed by one of Australasia's premier backing bands - fresh from performances alongside Ernest Raglan - featuring Adam Simmons (Australian Art Orchestra, Melbourne Ska Orchestra) with Chris Bekker (bass) & Davey Porter (drums) and Tim Neal.
Don't miss the chance to see one of the stars of the reggae world - with live band in session - a first and landmark event for Wellington city!
