live funk that tore up phat07 coming to the home of phat
P-Bass Expressway formed in 2000 as a five piece funk act from Christchurch, NZ. Inspired by classic funk acts such as The Meters, Herbie Hancock and James Brown, P-Bass have now developed their sound to include 70's disco, early 80's electro and old school hip-hip. 2003 saw the release of their debut CD, Expressfunk, with numerous tracks in the NZ Alternative Top 10. Tracks from this release spent six months on the playlists of New York's number one rated radio show, The Groove Boutique. On the back of this release P-Bass kept their touring schedule up and followed with the release of their debut vinyl 12" featuring three new tracks and a remix from Downtown Brown. Tracks from this release also spent good amounts of time in the chart and were released on Loop Select 7 and the Rippon Festival compilation. Downtown Brown's remix was playlisted on Mr Scruff's Hot Pot show worldwide. P-Bass Expressway have recently had five of their songs on the worldwide DVD release of cult film Offensive Behaviour. The film is released on New York label Troma and screens May 26th at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. Now expanded to an eight piece live funk act, P-Bass features vocals from Sunshine Soundsystem's KPz, Jennine Bailey, Sasha Van Beek and horns from Chris Burke and Scott Taitoko. P-Bass Expressway played 2005/06 and Rippon 2006 alongside NZ's best acts including Salmonella Dub, Shapeshifter, Kora, Hollie Smith, Solaa, Fat Freddy's Drop etc. In May 2006 P-Bass toured in Australia to promote their album release across the Tasman, and in July 2006 performed their 5th NZ tour to packed venues. Currently P-Bass are working towards completing their second CD due for release this summer.
