stepping it up for the dance floor '
AuSM, 95Bfm and Woodstock Blue proudly present Rhombus and Fat Freddy's Drop performing live with the Midnights at Vesbar on October 24, 2003.
Vesbar, located on AUT's Wellesley Campus, will come to life with performances by some of New Zealand's biggest talent.
Winners of three B-Net Music Awards, Best Album (bass player), Best Video (clav dub) and Best Electronic Release (bass player), Rhombus will "step it up" live, showing you why they are an essential part of the New Zealand music scene.
The unique Rhombus sound is the product of dub infused with hip-hop, jazz and robotic electronic beats. Their debut album, Bass Player, was an instant hit giving the band a following throughout New Zealand and even as far as Japan.
Fat Freddy's Drop, a 7-piece band from Wellington, is notorious for gigging long into the night. Their sound is made for the dance floor and that is why people love it most.
With an invigorating blend of dub, reggae and electronica this septet has sold almost 3000 copies of their album 'Live at the Matterhorn' in New Zealand alone.
The Fat Freddy's Drop sound is created in layers, beats, guitar, keys, and a horn section, which features saxophone, trumpet and trombone. The result is a cool mixture of funk and classy jazz with futuristic electronica and the dub we have come to know and love.
Two of New Zealand's hottest talents live at Vesbar for one night only. Tickets free to AUT students, $15 non-AUT students and $20 general public. Available now from Real Groovy, Ticketek and AuSM.
