"The best time to practice is in front of a crowd, save the bedroom for sleeping and other stuff" - Soane
Soane has maintained his standing as one of NZ's top house DJ's with established regular club nights in the main cities along with regular visits to many of the smaller towns.
Saturday, June 9, Soane shows some love to his dedicated fans on his debut appearance at the Fluid Lounge. Expect a swingin’ set with his signature mix of funked up house and wildly diverse music influences.
Soane is currently working on his second album. His first record “Tongan Chic” released Feb 2004, received widespread critical acclaim nationally and helped to solidify Soane's standing as a producer and song writer in NZ Music. The album featured NZ artists, Boh Runga, The Feelstyle, Manuel Bundy, Submariner, Isaac Aesili, Kurt Dyer, Killamanraro, Anthony Gold and Dick Johnson.
Soane's DJ career began in 1989 in Auckland, cutting up hip-hop, funk and R&B. By 1997 he had forged himself a reputation as a crowd favorite in the local house scene, holding down residencies at the Box, Buddha Bar and the infamous Calibre nightclub. He picked up support slots for visiting internationals such as, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, The Problem Kids, Phil Asher, Derrick May, DJ Q, Mateo & Matos, Sandy Rivera, Dick Johnson, Elliot Eastwick And Miles Hollway. Around this time Soane's relationship with Paperecordings and Shaboom developed, after yearly visits from their label DJ's. Soane has toured extensively in the UK and France, playing guest spots with mates Miles Hollway, Elliot Eastwick, Ben Davis and current Auckland resident Dick "Majik" Johnson. The tour highlights were, performing in Manchester with Andy Weatherall at Robodisco, and visiting "Stamford Bridge" home of Chelsea FC. He returned to the UK in 2000, this time as the headline for "Robodisco" in Manchester and "Kwality" with resident Dan Ganecea on the Batofar in Paris and 2001 for "Robodisco" "Space"at Bar Rumba with Kenny Hawkes and "The Big Chill" festival as well as studio collaborations with Shaboom writing under the moniker Troffman, and Paper's Reset.
