brace of small islands isolated in the South Pacific, a spot of spanglisized nomenclature, some luxuriously languid grooves and countless long hours tinkling the ivories, jabbing the buttons and burning the good oil.....midnight style- all of these factors contribute to the sola rosa experience.
The name on the back of the director's chair is Andrew Spraggon ('the Benz' to those in the know) who along with a few compardres and a heaping helping of imagination has conjured up three releases that progressively define his sound. Emanating from Auckland's little celebrated eastern suburbs the lid remains tight on several of Andrew's early musical outpourings. The words 'eighties synth band' should be enough to discourage rubbernecking around the decade of shame in this case but things come more clearly into focus with Cicada. The band released an EP and an album and toured New Zealand in the time honoured 'too many pies, late soundchecks and early starts' style. Andrew played guitar, mumbled on the mic and got a taste for hustling record shop owners to stock the goods.
We welcome Sola Rosa to Carbon alongwith Manuel Bundy and Downtown Borwn it's due to be a nite of beats.....
