Steve Lawler takes on the lawless
STEVE LAWLER TAKES ON THE LAWLESS
CREAM discovered Steve in 1997 in Ibiza where he was resident at Cafe Mambo. The strategy was to ease him in - let him develop at a steady pace - but over the last 18 months he has been slamming it everywhere he goes at infamous venues like Zouk (Singapore), boom boom rooms (Belfast), The Cross (London), Ministry of Sound (London), Federation (Blackpool), Tunnel (Glasgow), Potterrow (Edinburgh), The Redbox (Dublin) and special Cream events like who's who's land - Brussels.
"In just three years Steve Lawler has gone from playing Ibizan bars (despite having a phobia of lizards) to becoming one of the most exciting DJs in Britain through his stunning three-deck mastery at home¹s Deep South night. Playing a pitched-down set of tribal rhythms, deep house and eerie vocal cuts, a Lawler set is like tantric sex: hours of slinky, measured foreplay, before letting go in a mash-up explosion." - Viv Craske MIXMAG
The word was out and 1998 saw Steve go global. In the summer he started his mid-weekly residency at Amnesia in Ibiza and BCM in Mallorca. He also provided the most groundbreaking sets of the season at the mighty Space. After two months he had been crowned 'King Of Space' by the locals - a rare and well deserved honour. He also had a Saturday night residency at Cream in Liverpool which he flew back for each week.
During the winter months of '98 Steve toured extensively across the mighty United States with Cream. The result of this exposure was a monthly residency at Groovejet in Miami. 1999 saw Steve play the legendary winter music conference and later that year he spread his wings to fashionable South America - Punte del Este in Uraguay and Buenos Aires in Argentina.
Last year Steve moved his career into overdrive with appearances at the major outdoor summer events in England. Gatecrasher got into the que and used Steve's exponential skills to devastating effect and has since pulled him onto their roster of world-class DJs (his latest outing for them being in late April at Republic).
Nick Warren, John 00Fleming and his nubreed cohort Sander Kleinenberg headlined the bill for an all-hours aural-assault on the heaving masses. Needless to say, the night was huge.
