Well what can we say, we saved the best for last! The final international installment for 2001, Grind and Subtronix set the party vibes to maximum. Join us as we welcome 2 of the UK's finest purveyors of organic funk fuelled drum and bass, DJ's KRUST and DIE. Touching down here in Wellington for one night only to lay down the finest in Bristol VIP Dubplate badness.
Both these infamous Bristol DJ / Producers have visited our shores twice before. DJ Die has done two Big Day Out festivals - once alongside Roni Size & Dynamite MC & once as part of Reprazent earlier this year. DJ Krust came to New Zealand first with DJ Suv for Subtronix 2 years ago to promote his 'Coded Language' LP (Talkin' Loud), and also earlier this year at Big Day Out 2001 as part of Reprazent. DJ Die also played an impromptu club set at Fu the night before Big Day Out this year with Dynamite MC, and to say he tore the place down is an understatement.
Krust's sound focuses on off key samples and shuffling rhythms, his trademark strings and atmospherics, traverse the entire spectrum of drum & bass styles from jazz to dark. Solo efforts like 'Clear Skies' and 'Jittabug' have helped DJ Die carve a niche with his ability to fuse the jazz with the breaks to create devastating, seismic floor shakers. The common thread with both men's productions is always quality and of course mountains of funk.
[[image m=1451 align=right border=1 margin=2]]As core members of Roni Size's Reprazent crew, they had their hands in the creation of the hugely successful and ground breaking 'New Forms' album and it's recent follow up 'In The Mode'. Besides this DJ Die is one third of the critically acclaimed 'Breakbeat Era' project. As for Krust he released his incredibly original debut LP 'Coded Language' in 1998. There is also Krust and Die's extensive solo releases spanning both the V and Full Cycle back catalogues including many stand out tracks on the recent 'Through the Eyes'. The list of quality goes on and on, come witness UK drum and bass at its very best.
You have been warned, see you there.
