Once a side project for Richard Dorfmeister of Kruder & Dorfmeister, TOSCA has become the main dish in the world of down-tempo beats the Viennese DJ helped to create. In 1994, he paired up with onetime schoolmate Rupert Huber, and they set off on a journey marked by jazz snippets, blues samples, and orchestrated syncopation that has become the crème de la crème of breakbeat-fueled lounge music. The duo's classic first single, Chocolate Elvis launched a career that has yielded an entirely unique style. As a classically trained musician, Huber takes Dorfmeister's beat-driven impetus out of the clubs and projects it onto a wall of kaleidoscopic, orchestral soundsdense, nuanced compositions perfectly suited for post-clubbing come-down.
Now New Zealand will get the chance to catch the live TOSCA event. With Dorfmeister on turntables and Huber on piano, the live show will also feature MC Earl Zinger, former frontman of London acid-jazz scenesters Galliano, vocalist Ras MC T-weed, and visual visionary Fritz Fitzke, the man responsible for the unbelievable Kruder & Dorfmeister light shows.
The tour comes hot on the heels of the release of Souvenirs , The J.A.C. remixes, out now through G-Stone.
