A cutting edge night of underground electronic music - featuring mutant dub disco, punk funk electro and acid house.
Electro has revitalized dance music in the last few years. Just when everyone was getting bored of tribal and progressive house along came something new, yet something familiar. Sounds from the 80s mixed with sounds from the 90s. Old-skool New York vibes and German machine music coming together under one roof. Acid was back, punk-funk was cool, mullets were in and the kids of today were listening to records that sounded like they were made in '88, back where it all started.
Suddenly a new wave of energy was fueling a renaissance in the underground nightlife of cities such as Berlin, London, Paris, New York, Barcelona and even Ibiza.
With this as the backdrop three old friends from the Edinburgh club scene launched We Are...Electric in August 2005 with the aim of putting on a night of cutting edge electronic music and showcasing some of the best artists and producers from across the scene. Europe was buzzing to this new sound, why not Edinburgh too? The result has been a resounding success.
With over 500 through the door every Wednesday night, a membership list over 600 and monthly visits from top international artists such as FC Kahuna, Felix Da Housecat, M.A.N.D.Y, Booka Shade, Vector Lovers, Bryan Black, and Mugwump, not to mention the godfather himself Andrew Weatherall popping in to help celebrate the 1st birthday with a 3 hour set, and Black Strobe set to perform live in September, it's no wonder WAE has become the most talked about night in Scotland's capital for some time.
Now WAE comes to Auckland. Starting off small as a series of one-off parties hosted by DJ Flix, a founding member of WAE in Scotland and the former label manager of London based 10 Kilo records, and local Auckland dj Gabrielle Leon, the mission remains the same: to provide a night of quality electronic music.
With a unique music policy that includes 'mutant dub disco', 'punk funk electro' and 'acid house' no wonder these guys are excited about the launch night on Saturday 2nd September at the Bacco Room, Toto's Restaurant in Auckland.
