Having grown up in Bristol, Xample has always been surrounded by the sounds of drum and bass and the love of this music lead to him buying his first set of turntables. After relocating to Liverpool, he teamed up with other local DJ/producers Sol and Futurebound and became a regular at nights around the North West, playing at some of the best nights in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds. Around this time, Xample decided he wanted to try his hand at producing and before too long had notched up releases on labels such as Hard Leaders, Penny Black and L plates. In 2005 Xample moved back to Bristol and continued to work hard on shaping his sound, soon attracting interest from Andy C and the rest of the Ram camp, which lead to Xample signing to Frequency for a couple of 12s, before giving Ram his first track, 'Heaven And Hell', for the well received Dimensions EP, and also on Andy C's nightlife 3mix CD.
Lomax began his career as the original member of cult drum and bass collective HoldTight, and hadseveral releases on such labels as Industry, Renegade andReact. Nick has been extremely busy on the production front since 2003, when HoldTight's first two tunes, 'Dirty Habits' and '925' were championed by Andy C and licensed for the Nightlife compilation and J Majik's Fabric mix CD.HoldTight were also responsible for the much talked about official D&B remix of Candi Staton's dance classic 'You've Got The Love', remixingthe UK hip hop anthem'UK Bubblers' by Skitz, Rodney P and Skeme, and also remixing for Hospital Records covering Cyantific's 'Output'. Following HoldTight's album release, Lomax spread his wings and went solo, pursuing a more minimal sound.
Having released on Critical, Bingo and Integral to name a few, he then produced one of the tunes of 2007, 'Artisan' on Bounce records, and then signed exclusively to Ram in 2008 and has since gone to number 1 in the dnb chart with both his releases, including the huge 'Faith Massive EP'.
Xample and Lomax had since joined forces in 2007, and their sound was an instant success, combining the raw dancefloor sound of Xample with Lomax’s musical edge. Ram soon saw the massive potential of this collaboration, which lead to their first single on Ram, 'Lowdown/The Latter' which was released in May 2007 to heavy dancefloor exposure and great reviews. 'Contra'/'Keep Their Heads Ringin' was the follow up single and confirmed Xample & Lomax as a major force on the Drum and bass scene, a partnership that has blossomed into a first class production outfit with their own unique sound. With support and interest from many of the big players in Drum & Bass and Radio 1 DJs, big things are lined up in 2010 with their debut album which will follow on the success of label mates Chase & Status and Subfocus.
