DJ ZINC (TRUE PLAYAZ / BINGO , UK) NZ TOUR 2005
Whether he's hunched over the pulsing lights of the studio or rocking a blistering drum & bass set, DJ Zinc has been at the forefront of the drum and bass movement for over 10 years now, his production and DJ'ing skills are regarded as second to none by many. Zinc's sets are legendary for there full spectrum flava, good vibes and serious crowd rocking nature, always going to that extra length mixing up special VIP versions with the latest and greatest dubplates doing the rounds and showcasing his own brand new productions.
It was alongside DJ Hype and Pascal as part of the True Playaz collective Zinc really made his mark on the drum and bass world in the mid-90's. Tracks such as Super Sharp Shooter, Six Million Ways to Die and his Ready or Not remix meant Zinc and anything bearing the True Playaz logo was in hot demand. Zinc's key records have always been about hybrid sounds and about fusing new elements onto solid steel breaks. 138 Trek, set the garage world alight and eventually became a top 30 hit.
During 1997 True Playaz started a monthly club event at The End, after a few years they moved to Fabric and have become the club's most successful regular night to date and is still going strong in 2005. Zinc's latest London residency Faster which kicked off in 2004 shares the same levels of popularity and is always guaranteed to be roadblock business.
2003 saw the release of Zinc's genre mashing debut artist LP. During its production Zinc realised that the tunes he'd been putting on the backburner had two things in common - they weren't strictly drum & bass and they were all different tempos. An idea formed: Make an album of heavy mood music, featuring vocalists, MCs and his own killer production - and program the tracks in speed order and so 'Faster' the album was born. It's jammed to the bumper with depth-charge bass, crystal-tipped breaks and memorable, mysterious night-world melodies. It's trenchantly widescreen, covering hard soul slow-jams, laid-back girl singers, itchy, scratchy drum & bass and megaton MC chaos.
Last year Zinc's own label Bingo became his serious focus, generally regarded for its floor rocking garage and breaks releases (some by Zinc under the alias Jammin) it became the launching pad for some serious drum and bass anthems. Leading the charge was one of the dnb mix cds of 2004, Bingo Sessions vol 1. From there the label went on to release some of the biggest dancefloor hits of the year, changing its image from a solid breaks imprint to one of the leading drum and bass labels on the scene.
Now once again in 2005 we welcome back DJ Zinc, in New Zealand for 3 speaker busting, genre twisting performances. Expect nothing but the finest in dancefloor drum and bass expertly blended by one of the true legends.
