Actually the more telling sign for me is equinox. Massive in ChCh hummed through another cycle in the seasons with the essentials of dancing out doors.
This process of dancing through the occasion of seasonal change, while pagan in a touch, I find it a whole lot more relevant than religion or mystic or shopping.
Dancing to electronic music has always provided me with a very dynamic solution to dealing with the stress of modern life. Combine this with a little bit of observation of nature and you have this wonderful double header of self-care.
Sounds all to good to be true, and completely unrelated to a good night out! True, but I am now into my 9th cycle of observing the shifting of the sun through having a bit of a dance.
Each year this experience becomes a little less dramatic and just simply part of my routine to get through a year. Making dance events the places I get to experience and enjoy the company of friends who I would otherwise never see.
Dance music creates a community. Community is Culture.
Culture is a context in which you can gain perspective on your life.
