tell me the truth

This morning I awoke; scared and helpless I cringed in the corner of my barren room, shaking, crying. Horrified at my own weakness I pretended to ignore the truth of my own condition.

I had imagined a world where everyone lived in fear, where everyone denied themselves the beauty of their own lives. A world where we externalized all our confidence: A world where only money could tell you the truth.

In this world everything was manufactured, everything was produced from a factory. People were responsible for consuming their share of goods or suffer the waste.

You were punished by banishment from society if you did not conform to the standards outlined regularly in the media. You were watched by your friends; monitored by your neighbors. The bank had cameras in your house, making sure that you made their interest.

I tried to go back to sleep, to slip carefully back into my slumber, but reality chased me down the long dark passage to my dreams. It shattered the crystal temple of my secret thoughts and made me cold and terrible.
