In a few weeks time this chap called Monolake is coming to NZ to play a live 'minimal techno' set. This is a fairly unique gig for us, one that will showcase the electronic sound that is running most of the dance floors worldwide from Brazil to Croatia.

Now in my opinion we have been missing out on this sound because of our blind infatuation with other sounds. What I think is essential for NZ right now is that we give 'minimal techno' a proper listen. That means turning up and standing infront of the sound until you start to hear it, like really hear it.

More importantly it means standing in front of the sound and moving your body, you know actually getting into the groove and letting the music speak to you physically as you dance.

I want this to happen because I think its time. I think there is a need for a massive new scene, an energetic new movement of people who come together to dance and feel that beat.

I want this to happen because I was there when it happened with Jungle in ChCh. I was there when it happened with Deep House in Wgt. I was there when it happened with Fat Freddys Drop at Wonderland. That moment when the penny drops and the crowd suddenly 'gets it'. Then there is no turning back, no switching off the groove, it just infects everything.

Its always exciting, physically and emotionally. The universal simultaneous connection to a new groove. Its these moments that make dance music reputable. The scene does this crazy thing, it expands quickly, it has fun, lots of new people go to gigs and have good times, meet people that they feel in common with. They make friends and create living memories that are triggered by the new groove.

I've listened to a bin load of dance music, more than most people. So I want this to happen cause I know that its time. New Zealand this is your chance to wake up get out of your dirty little rut. It's time to step up and pay attention to 'minimal techno'.

It's probably not going to happen, but I want it to, and if it does, then you heard it here first.

Then you can say to everybody "I know what time Love is!".
