Splore 04

An Englishman's first Splore...

Matt Robinson

Well being an English man I have been to a few festivals in the UK before now. Namely Glastonbury, Phoenix Festival, WOMAD to name a few.
I had heard about Splore and thought I would give it a go seen as though it would be my first NZ fesitval and at $90 for a ticket who could go wrong. Boy was I amazed.

I cant belive how much effort everybody went to to attend this amazing event.

People made more effort than I could of imagined from dragging their entire house contents to the camping areas to dressing up in the most amazing costumes.

I arrived on Friday afternoon to set up our base camp. It took 2 journeys to the car to get our belongings and most other people maybe 4 or 5.
Had a quick scan around the different areas for maybe an hour and then took a chilled beer from Verona and discussed what we would like to see over the weekend.

Being a English man I didnt know what many of the DJ's styles were so it was pretty much pot luck to whom I heard.

I was pleasently surprised by the acts on the main stage. Out of all of them I gotta give Fat Frddys a huge 10 out of 10.

I had heard rumors that they were good but not that good.

My highlight on Saturday night was defintly Mr Schumaker and Baitercell. Who'd of thought that you could merge opera and beats?

Minut were also outstanding too. I had seen them at dancing in the street and wasnt highly impressed, but they certainly made up for that.

Out of the 3 main zones my favorite was definately Oceania Grove. All I can say is "Trippers Paradise".

The whole weekend for me was absolutly outstanding on all levels from the music to the market.

What more can I say except "ROLL ON 2006"

I will be there hopefully contibuting in some way in 2006

Splore 04 thank you very much
