On Monday 28th May 2001, as the second Detroit Electronic Music Festival was coming to a close, just before Inner City performed on the Main Stage.

Carl Craig was awarded a special commendation from Dennis W. Archer the Major of the City of Detroit that recognized his founding role in the festival and Detroit music.
