Ignite 03
News from the Ignite 03 gig held at the Auckland town Hall and Aotea Centre
21 Apr 2003
Tuesday night at the Aotea centre was a chance for bedroom DJ's and well
knowns to talk shop.
If CDJ's, needles and levels aren't part of your vocab, hosts Dick Johnson
and Greg Churchill would have bored you to tears. For the hundred or so that
did turn up, this was not the case. Questions and answers flew around the
room between amateur and pro on all topics from CDJ's vs. decks to demo's,
to getting overseas gigs. It was a casual chat followed by voluntary mixing.
Julian (From Lightspeed) said the nights are one of a kind in this country and it is
good to have the support (albeit minute) for something with such a huge
following.
"We could have sold this four times over," says ... who are thinking of
taking it outside Auckland with the huge response they've had so far.

The Panel for the night was made up of Dick 'Magik' Jonhson (Shamboom Records), Pete Jenkinson ( Paper Recordings) Simon Woods ( Nurture Recordings and Simon Woods (Inmusic).
Topics of Disscusion ranged from The use of the Internet; Mp3 downloads; online record sales; artist, dj websites ect. Taking Samples and loops from older tracks and how to go about clearing them for use.
The use of Promo cds to open club nights.. this raised a few eyebrows and many questions are still be asked about this idea. other subjects where the importing of hard to get records and getting your music to record compaines. Some of the measures people have to take just to get it played as we found out are quite unbeliveable.
Bob Daktarik on the otherhand dosnt even listen to any of his tracks he gets unless there is prior contact :-)
Thanks to LightSpeed for Inviting Rachael and myself along. Big ups to the Ignite 03 Crew
