Alex Paterson rose to fame as a DJ in the late eighties after Paul Oakenfold gifted him a resident ambient room at his club 'Land of Oz'. It is here that Alex is said to have pioneered 'ambient rave'; mixing up a calming storm of psychedelia and minimalism where club punters could escape from the main floor and bug out.

Around the same time Paterson started making music and The Orb was born - the collaborative unit based around himself that, a decade and seven albums on, has survived the test of time as a vital soundtrack for the Thereafterhours Generation.

As with his production work, Alex Paterson as DJ will always offer a new perspective on the direction of electronic music. Paterson promises whatever it takes to move the floor - bringing a swag of records consisting of anything from techno to ambient to ragga to house to jungle to completely bent binary brainscapes.

Paterson will play four New Zealand dates in July; Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown. Wellington audiences having the added incentive (as if there needs to be one) of Paterson's descent being the last ever show at the legendary Escape Club, the space that has played host to acts such as Bailter Space, Shihad, Roots Foundation, Salmonella Dub, Lava Lava, DJ Sneak, and Dave Angel amongst many others.

Local support comes from top local wax technicians Filter, Coda, Tjaden, Vishal, Cyrus, K- Tel, and the Headz (live). Basstech promises the complete audio and visual club experience, with sound enforcement from premiere supplier Western Audio and eye candy from ICP (Piero Lavo, New Zealands top computer animator), as well as a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
