 They said techno was the new jazz in `92 and more recently the drum & bass but right here Wellington City seems to be breeding its own strains of the funkiest hi-octane freestyle beats and sounds to be found anywhere on the globe. Take three Polynesian musicians sharing a common fascination with the science of the echo chamber; Chris Faiumu (aka Mu) -DJ extrodinare and bass beat demigod; Dallas Tamaira -the sweetest soul-sonic vocal visions; & Maka McGregor -taut polyrhythmic percussion, one of the top sticksmen in the country; mash it up live in session, put it all through a series of tape delays and space echo, and you have HeadZ. Friday 22 May sees the HeadZ perform live @ Valve, the recently revamped re stylised and re-opened ex-Hole In The Wall bar in the centre of Wellingtons small but well located repobahn. Be sure to survey the solid state sounds of HeadZ, a luxurious mix of the deepest house, breakbeat, dub + d&b cloaked in a unique pacific freestyle energy.
