Queenstown 14/7 Christchurch 15/7 Wellington 16/7 Auckland 17/7 Beaming in from Birmingham deep in the heart of englands midi-lands, rockers hi fi are set to create record-breaking mid-winter temperatures with a scorching, live and direct stereophonic sound-system show. Adopting the dex'n fx set-up that served them so well on the dj kicks album the touring party will include dj dick at the helm navigating the sounds and tweaking the knobs, ably assisted by long time mic. Controller farda p, and recent recruit andy [shere khan] vine. Letting off the classics in a fresh style and slipping in some exclusive new material this show should not be missed by any who have felt the rumble of the rockers in the past. With a remix pedigree that stretches from dawn penn and shantel to vampyros lesbos and sly and robbie the booming bandits of brum-n-bass have come to shower us with delicious dubplates and dusty grooves that break the mould, this truly is one not to be missed. Over the past 8 years rockers hi fi have built up a formidable and unique evolving reputation as both original artists blending up all styles into a simmering reggae sonic stew and as remix pioneers, taking on selected missions from all sides of the musical globe. Their most recent album "overproof" saw them honing the sound back to the strident simplicity of their earliest releases. Deep house, moody downtempo business, non attitudinal dubwise drum'n bass and maurizio style minimalism all feature on their most successful album to date. Their k7 dj kicks release [the black album] not only demonstrated farda p's amicable mic style and the groups deep and diverse tastes, but also went on to be one of the series' biggest sellers alongside long time hi fi supporters kruder and dorfmeisters contribution (k&d sessions). The austrian connection goes deeper with the most recent remixes from rockers central including richard dorfmeisters tosca project as well as waldeck and ella fitzgerald. Always forwards never backwards they can even be found moonlighting in mascara as the switchblade sisters on infracom!'s "tribes of da undaground volume 4" cutting a rug with a slinky discofied dollop they call "theme". As their previous albums [rockers to rockers and mish mash] have effortlessly demonstrated, this group knows of no genre barriers but treats all styles to an equal dose of their dubwise thunder. With timeless cuts like what a life push push 90 fuzzwalk going under transmission central and hello everybody in their armoury, what the rockers flingdown is anybodies guess. However you can be sure it will include plenty of echo, lashings of low end theory, ruff lyrics and more good vibes than a punter can reasonably expect in (s)election year. Taking time out from the completion of a new mini album, this tour has been a long term goal for a group who have shown unusual support to new zealand music. In 1996 they donated a ruling remix to unitone hi-fis "rewound and rerubbed" album and only last year included tracks from short fuse and phase 5 (aka soundproof) on their different drummer labels' "son of bastard tracks" compilation. Having operated under a long white cloud of their own for some time, the uk's premier exponents of bass'n'blend dancefloor vibes are touching down for four solid sessions of heavyweight dubwise business. No musical styles are safe, lock up your tweeters! "Why should we be in so much haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises. If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." Henry david thoreau
