It's like dance music that's not dance, catchy music that's not pop and pop music that doesn't make sense...... I'd call this music Psychedelic Electro Trippy Pop".

'The Greenmatics', formerly known as 'Emerald Green', was originally a happy obsession/self produced 2004 solo project of noted live music photographer (and former original 'The Shocking Pinks' vocalist) Melanie Smith. Armed with the Demos and a vision too large for any old Christchurch bedroom, Mel relocated to Auckland in late 2004 to pursue her musical aspirations. Whilst in Auckland Mel put together a 3 piece band, they received a nomination for "Most Promising New Act" in the 2005 bNet Music Awards, played a lot of gigs, completed a Nationwide Tour of New Zealand during May 2005, got playlisted on many NZ Radiostations and had the video for 'In Limbo' aired on New Zealand's TV Music Station C4. In late 2005 Mel relocated to Melbourne to do it all over again....

When writing songs for The Greenmatics, Mel is inspired by music which has infectious melodies, driving beats and 80's synths - "music you can't help but dance to and melodies that get stuck in your head, but not in an annoying way".
