Ill Semantics - serious waves
act Ill Semantics was conjured up in 1993, and began taking to make serious waves in the local music scene from 1996 onwards.

Ill Semantics have seen a number of lineup changes over the years, the current line up consisting of Mark A. aka Patriarch, Roimata Moore aka Nemesis, Peter Chambers aka DJCXL, plus regular guest MC Hazadus. These musicians stem from Polynesian and Maori heritage, and it shows in their music.

They first came to public attention with the single "Drop That Ish", produced by DJ P-Money, which spent 7 weeks at the top of student station bFM's charts.
This was swiftly followed up with the track "Verbal Assault" on Dawn Raid Entertainment's "Southside Story II" compilation, another radio hit for radio b and also Mai FM.

The group have built a solid reputation for their live performances, providing support for such acts as Naughty By Nature, Nelly Furtado, Black Eyed Peas and many more, plus a busy schedule around the country on the local hip-hop scene.

Their forthcoming debut album, "Theory of Meaning" has been in production for the last year and features many of Aotearoa's top vocal talents including Ardijah, King Kapisi, Mareko, AKA Brown and many more. With production from AKA Brown's John Chong-Nee and P-Money, "Theory of Meaning" explodes pre-conceptions and promises to open a whole new chapter in Aotearoa hip-hop.
