The Audio Foundation supports innovative practices that are primarily concerned with the use of sound.
The aim of the foundation is to provide a hub and database that will help refine, explore and extend both the scope and meaning of this significant art form and to facilitate and represent the audio community.
The ephemeral nature of audio artwork does not yet fit well into the current structures that support the presentation and discussion of either the arts or music.
While the influence of audio work can be found in everything from moving image to installation to the media arts, the discipline itself requires the kind of attention its influence warrants.
The foundation seeks to address the grey area between the mainstream music industry and visual arts community.
With a discourse and networking infrastructure of its own, there is a historical reference for the community, a cultural context and finally a way for awareness and interest to develop and therefore for audience to develop.
