Nelson's Phat Club has transformed inner city night-life to the extent that music lovers have moved back to the town
Bringing international artists such as Ian Pooley, Aphrodite, Ben Davis, Dick Johnson, BLIM, Trans Am, & Digital plus Salmonella Dub, Pitch Black, Fat Freddys Drop, Concord Dawn, The Black Seeds, Shapeshifter, Trinity Roots, Deceptikonz, P-Money, Scribe, Sir Vere, Rob Salmon & Greg Churchill to Nelson has radically changed Bridge St.
With 60 years combined experience in the music industry, Dave White & Selena Coombes decided it was time for Nelson's music industry to 'grow up' & provide the kind of high quality service expected in other global cities.
Utilising their unique personalities as design artists, VJs & musicians, the couple renovated their Bridge St building into a pumping techno psychedelic home for visual & aural stimulation, described by visitors as the "Phattest Soundsystem in the land", & quickly developing the reputation for providing the tastiest cocktails in town!
"I'm back in Soho" & "I walked off Bridge St & ended up in San Francisco", are just some of the comments that gush over the bar on any regular club night from both tourists & locals alike.
The Phat Club also producers compilation CDs of local & national acts, a range of Phat clothing including hoodies, patches & t-shirts, All-Ages Outdoor Parties such as the massive drum n bass spectacular to be staged at Kokorua Beach this New Years Eve featuring Bad Company UK (Maldini & Vegas), Pendulum (Perth), Digital & MC YT UK, Concord Dawn, Salmonella Dub, Shapeshifter, The Black Seeds, Nathan Haines, Cornerstone Roots, Agent Alvin & many more, provides a support & promotion service for local bands & DJs & an e-mail newsletter that goes out to over 500 people per week all over the planet.
In the musical international underground, Nelson is fast becoming known as PHAT Nelson!
