As the feedback loop kicked in last week there were several inquiries about my morbidity.
It basically boils out like this: I love dance culture dearly, it's been my most constant activity for like forever. Yet the activities of dance culture exists in this paradox of being the most senseless and mindless and also the most meaningful and enlightening.
In a potential crisis of human existence (real or imagined) dancing in front of loud sound systems to repetitive beats is either the most wasteful thing you can be doing or possibly the last remaining freak opportunity for humanity to connect with itself.
Historically in times like this, when people have time to indulge in constant decadence, it can spell the end of empires. Alternately the sub-plot to dance culture is that it provide some sort of harmonic convergence of the human spirit, some radical awakening of a greater and more enlightened humanity.
So, what's your coin? How do you flip out when the chips are down? Do you dance or do you bunker up with extra supplies and hope for the best? I might be deadly cynical but I'm still dancing!
