Why do themes of militancy pervade much of the underground dance ideals? Why does the underground have to present a staunch front, often in contradiction to musical goals that are about bringing togeather good vibes and freedom of expression.
Ironically it is distinctly about protecting the integrity of the good vibes that results in militancy. From the deep end dance scene there was an initial idea that the good vibes themselves would maintain the dance floor (PLUR?). That somehow people would dance to good music and find the light and love that core floor aspired to.
However true heads now know that many people did not find light and love on the dance floor. Let alone connect with the history, culture and integrity of the music that created the dance experience in the first place.
People just want to have fun and are willing to take shortcuts to ensure this happens. Repeatedly slapping togeather the latest trends with hasty commercial ideas has compound a dance scene with no sense of history, a depth less culture and ultimately a shallow musical integrity that is trending rapidly towards blah.
Everything has become secondary to the individual desires of the people on the dance floor. There is no collective identity, no shared experience, no common appreciation for the dance.
So hence, the underground is bunkered down, bootstrapped and ready to fight, ready to protect the music and ideals of a dance floor full of light and love, full of original good vibes. The good news is that while commercial ideas fade away the underground never dies!
