So 'minimal' has already been declared a dead genre and Dubstep is so hot right now everyone is already bored of it?

The current broadcast on visiting Dj's is that they came here 10 years ago. Fair call I was there and nice to see everyone again. Still my interest in dance culture was always to do with its progressive approach to music, environment & culture.

My first dance event was such a massive transition from anything I have ever experienced that I was blow away. The subsequent events continued this progressing, pushing my mind and body into new physical dimensions. New sonic experience, new ideas, new life.

My most recent experience like this was seeing an indy band play live in the street, where the lead singer held his foot on the kick drum to stop it running away.

The whole performance felt on the edge, ready to collapse in a screaming heap of 'emo' kids. I was entertained, riveted, tapping my toes and saying dumb things to people next to me .. 'this is amazing!'

When did dance music become safe, risk free fun? The sounds I hear seem so muted, controlled and justifiable. The whole experience is like carefully crafted sponge cake, after the icing its all the same.

Is dance music is breeding itself out of existence. Do I need to stay in my life boat, rowing after the indy kids to catch a new wave?
